Why choose a slide-on camper?
Trayon slide-on campers allow you to go anywhere where your vehicle is capable of going. Some places are just too precarious or restricted for access to off road caravans and camper trailers.

Other benefits of our slide-on campers include:
  • Sleeping quarters are off the ground (e.g. keeping away from crocks and snakes)
  •  Traverse difficult terrain in a nimble vehicle (sand dunes, snow or rocky terrain without towing)
  •  Unlock the many tracks that trailers are prohibited from for saftey and conservation concerns
  •  Lower maintence cost than a trailer
  •  No additional registration costs
  •  low profile aerodynamic design behind the vehicle cab to reduce drag and keep fuel costs low
  •  Ease of storage when not in use with low profile design
  •  Low center of gravity for ease of driving and saftey
  •  Have the ability to tow a boat or other toys, along with a place to sleep
  •  Free standing, setup camp and drive away
  •  Setup / packup in 2-5 minutes
  •  Much easier to park in urban areas, stop at the shops etc
  •  Super strong non-welded aluminium structure
  •  Gas and 240V compliant

How To Choose A Slide-on Camper? And Why Does Weight Matter So Much?
Whether you choose Trayon or not. Choosing a slide-on camper involves a little more groundwork than simply choosing features.

Most utes in Australia have an approximate payload between 0.9 - 1.2 Tonne. To stay safe in the outback, ensure your camper + water, fuel, luggage, people and offroad accessories are under your vehicles limits. Here are the steps involved in choosing a slide on camper:
  • Estimate payload and identify your safe slide on camper weight
  •  Upgrade your vehicle to suit purpose
  •  Choose type of slide on camper
  •  Consider weight distribution of the slide on camper (fridges, water tanks, gas bottles and batteries should all be as close to the center of the wheel base)
  • Consider the manufacturers reputation, years of manufacturing and if they are Australian made
  •  Identify quality of materials and structure
  •  Make a short list and go check them out in person

Will I Need A Suspension Upgrade?
Trayon campers are built specifically to be well within your vehicle's unmodified load carrying limits. When fully loaded with everything you need for a full swing off road adventure, it can push up to 700 kg quickly (depending on the load you choose to add of course).

That's well within the one tonne carrying capacity of many Australian utes.

So, why would you still need a 4WD suspension upgrade?

It’s more about your intention to leave the bitumen and the terrains you wish to cover, than it is about the slide on campers weight.

What ever camper you get (slide on or camper tailer). If you are leaving the bitumen, then yes, we recommend at the very least an off-road suspension upgrade.
