A couple of weeks back I attended the second annual Ford Ranger Meetup which was held on the banks of the Dermasq river just south of Texas, Queensland. Arrivals started as early as Tuesday right through to vehicles arriving on Saturday morning which was the official kickoff. Friday evening was a group spit roast before official proceedings on Saturday included a photo shoot at the Texas Highway sign. Then on to the Ford family owned store for another great photo shoot and viewing of the memorabilia in the retail store. Lastly before lunch we then headed onto a guided and education tour of the once booming rabbit processing plant which is now a great museum of the years of its operation. At the request of our host we assembled the convoy, this time at the front of the museum for some publicity shots to aid the museum as well as providing some great pics for the local paper.
After lunch we assembled for a mini 4wd short course incorporating offroad techniques, correct gear selection and safe recovery techniques. Late afternoon there was a visit from ARB sporting their super tricked 79 series which despite not being a Ford, was enjoyed, before a fund raising auction of Ford / 4wd accessories.
This year we raised more than $5,700 for the RFDS (Qld) and enjoyed the company of some great people that come from as far away as the regions of Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and of course Brisbane and surrounds. Per last year I was the only Trayon waving the flag but the mix again was strong between nearly every mode of camping style possible. A great weekend with like minded people.
